Spay Day 2010

Today is the Humane Society's annual Spay Day to remind people how important it is to spay or neuter your pets. THREE TO FOUR MILLION ANIMALS ARE EUTHANIZED EVERY YEAR IN THE U.S. Yes, that's 3-4 MILLION folks. That absolutely boggles my mind. These are animals that could have made great family members and companions, but had to die because they had no home. This reality breaks my heart so much and also makes me mad as heck 'cause a lot of these deaths could have been prevented if people had their animals spayed or neutered. I am not trying to offend anyone, but you are part of the problem if you allow your animals to breed, plain and simple. Also, when you make the decision to get an animal it should be for life. Like with a child, you have to give them all the love, attention, and care that they deserve. You don't get rid of them if they get too big, don't act they way you want them to, or cost you money that you don't want to spend. They depend on you and it is your responsibility to provide for them. Please watch the video below and if it doesn't convince you that you have to spay or neuter your pets, I don't know what will.

Angie I have noticed you and I feel the same exact way about all animals. It is very sad for me to see the stray cats around our neighborhood. They are being fed by some neighbors but are not spayed or neutered. Sigh...:( Chestnut was a tiny stray when we found him in our own backyard six years ago. I really wish I could help them all like i helped our boy. I cry everytime those Humane Society commercials come on.

Thanks for posting this reminder.

I visit your blog often, but have never commented. I am an animal lover and I feel the same way you do. I didn't even attempt to watch the video since I cry when I see the humane society commercials. Thanks for posting this!

I am SOOOO with you on this!!!! It just burns me up when animals aren't treated properly and GET YOUR ANIMALS FIXED!!! Oh I hear you loud and clear. All of our animals have always been spayed or neutered because there are just WAY TOO many unwanted animals as it is. I can't even watch the video clip because they make me cry. I would adopt them all if I could.♥

I'm with you! I get more upset over things like this than I can say. It is criminal to take a pet and not take care of it. It is criminal to allow unwanted beings into a world where they will not have proper care. I'm with you!

Great post! I'm sharing this on my twitter, blog & FB acct. Hope you don't mind. We have rescued all our animals. Have 5 cats & a dog that came from a busted puppy mill. It makes me very sad that the animal population is out of control. We are the voice for these animals!

Definitely can't watch that video but thank you for putting it up for those that are unaware of the stray population. It literally hurts my heart to think of all the unloved furbabies out there. Blessings to you for your reminder.

Bravo! My 10-year old volunteers at our local animal shelter and it just breaks my heart to go in there week after week knowing that the cute little puppy or kitty that was there the past three weeks running, but is now gone probably didn't get adopted. Our shelter has a great placement rate (85%) but it isn't the norm.

And for everyone who reads this and has stray cats around please check to see if there are any spay and return programs in your area.
