Thrifty Treasures

Today I am joining Rhoda at Southern Hospitality for Today's Thrifty Treasures. I am going to go ahead and warn you that you might get a teensy bit jealous of the awesome finds I scored Sat. at yard sales. It was a great day! I spent a total of $9.75 on all the stuff below. Let me break it down for you just 'cause I am so proud.
* bunny tray - $2
* toile platter - $1
* 5 pillows - $3.50
* basket - $1
* lamp - 50 cents
* candleholder - $1
* metal pitcher - 25 cents
* 4 wood finials - 50 cents

I about squealed when I saw the bunny tray. I hung it in my dining room when I got home. It's my favorite thing I found on Saturday. I saw a cute antique single bed for $15 and I could kick myself for not buying it. It was painted black and just adorable. I am seriously thinking about going back to the house and asking the lady if she still has it. I have a single bed in my guest bedroom/office now instead of a double so I need it. Hope y'all had a wonderful weekend and will have a great Monday!

Show Us Where You Live - Dining Room

I know many of you have already seen my dining room, but I thought I'd join in the party over at Kelly's Korner for Show Us Where You Live Friday. She has been featuring different rooms over the last several weeks, but this is the first time I have participated. My dining room used to be red like my kitchen, but I painted it and the foyer yellow/gold a while back. It definitely brightened things up! I have tried to decorate it like my kitchen, not formal, so they flow. I have a mix of different things. As you can see none of the furniture matches, but that's OK with me. Check out lots of other dining rooms over at Kelly's Korner. Hope you have a fun and safe Memorial Day weekend!!!

My Attempt at Decoupage

I decided to try my hand at decoupage about midnight last night while watching "Sleeping with the Enemy" for about the 20th time. I don't know why I always watch that movie when it's on. I used a 10 cents tray from a yard sale and a pack of napkins bought at TJ Maxx. Sorry, no before pictures. It is not very smooth, but it turned out alright. Napkins are very thin and tear easily so that was kind of a pain. If anybody has any tips on decoupaging let me know 'cause I plan on trying it again.

Tasha left me a comment the other day wanting to know how I covered the backs of the open cabinet in my kitchen. My husband measured and cut some thin pieces of wood to fit. I used wrapping paper and just taped it on the wood. Then we put the pieces in the cabinets. Two of them fit in there perfectly and the other two have a small screw to hold them in place. Totally easy and cost me nothing!

Heather 57 wanted to know my kitchen paint color. It is American Tradition (the brand Lowe's used to have) Cherokee Red.

Hope you have a wonderful day!!!

Sat. Yard Sale Finds

I found some pretty good stuff at yard sales on Saturday. I spent a total of $12.65 on all the finds you see below. You'll be seeing these things popping up around my house in future posts I'm sure. My favorites are the old books (25 cents each), 4 little white urns (10 cents each), Southern Living plate (50 cents), and the big picture ($2). I have already taken the print out because I really just bought it for the large chunky frame which I will paint. The vanity chair in the last pic ($1) will be used outside. I'll show it to you later this week. Happy Monday to you!

I am liking it now!!!

Y'all were so right! Most of you said that once I put accessories in front of the busy paper I would like it and I do! I'm so glad 'cause I didn't want to change that paper, but I'm sure I will in the future when I get tired of it. I love having a new space to decorate and look at when I am in the kitchen. I still need to fill in the holes where the screws were and I may put some trim on the front edges of the shelves. I really should paint underneath the shelves and on the sides where they are brown wood, but I am not really worried about it and I don't love to paint. Anybody with me on that? Hope y'all are having a wonderful Wednesday! I plan on having some fun outside with my son today. Oh, the joys of being a stay-at-home mom!

My Unfinished Weekend Project

Well, I didn't finish the kitchen cabinet project this weekend, but I wanted to update you on what I've done so far. I covered the wood pieces to go along the back wall with this wrapping paper I had. I am not sure if I am going to leave it or not. I kinda like it and I kinda hate it. Does that make sense? I like that it brings red over to this side of the room, but it is a busy pattern and may be too much of it in one space. I may put some accessories on the shelves to see how it looks. I have been looking at fabric to possibly change my window treatments in here, so I also have that to consider. I have red walls so I have to work with them 'cause I am not in the mood to paint them at this time. Maybe this project was not a good idea...

My Weekend Project

This is the project I have been working on and will hopefully finish this weekend. I took the cabinet doors off and my husband cut some wood pieces to fit on the backs so I can cover them with fabric or paper. Then I get to decorate the shelves with more of my junk! How fun!!! Check back on Monday for an update. Have an awesome Mother's Day weekend!

A Few Things

Hope your week is going well! It isn't Spring around here - it feels like Summer! I am enjoying it though, even if it is hot. Today I put this black and white checked pillow on my bench for something different. It is one I made a long time ago. Well, there was really no making to it, just wrapping a pillow with some fabric and pinning it on the back. I traced a fleur de lis stencil and colored it with a red Sharpie. Y'all know I'm all about the CHEAP, QUICK, and EASY!!! I don't have a lot of patience. My son is helping me with that everyday. I also put my chalkboard on top of the refrigerator. It used to hang on the wall, but I took it down a few weeks ago and didn't know where to put it. I kind of like it up there. My mom's birthday was yesterday and my parents and brother and his fiancee came over for supper last night. My mom finally noticed the message at the end of the night. So, that's all I have for y'all today. Have a great afternoon and night!
