Grandma's Old Hutch Finds a New Home

This old hutch that was my Grandma's has been in storage since 2004 when she passed away. I had always liked it and one day a few weeks ago decided to see if it might work in my kitchen. My Dad brought it over to my house and it fit perfectly and I love it! It has some great display space which is always good since I have lots of plates and accessories. It also has some much needed storage at the bottom which I can never have enough of. At first I thought that it HAS to be painted. But, I am kinda liking the warm wood color since I have so much white in here. I am going to keep it like it is for now. Plus, painting is a big pain and I am not in the mood to do it! I am already looking forward to putting out my cabbage plates and bunnies on it for Spring/Easter. My Mom told me that Grandma would be so pleased that I was using her hutch so that makes it extra special! Have a great Monday!

It looks beautiful as is. Don't paint it, if you don't have too!

I would leave it as is too! I think it is good to have a mix of painted and un-painted furniture in our spaces.

LOVE IT! I am in agreement. I love the look of mixing painted and unpainted furniture....at it picks up the wood in your dining table top.

Very pretty, Angie! I love your bunnies! : ) I'd leave it as is, too. I think the fact that it is wood and not painted helps your display items stand out more.

Angie, I love it! I like the wood. It looks so warm and inviting and homey. Of course, as I have said before, I could just move into your kitchen as is. Love it!

What a special piece!! I know you love it! I have my Granny's cedar chest, and although it is massive and difficult to place, I love it, too!

The wood looks great, don't paint it. I sold my hutch that was almost this same exact thing - kick myself over & over again.

I love painted pieces, but I, too, think you're wise to live with a piece -- especially one as precious as your hutch -- for a while before you commit to painting it. I also love mixing wood pieces with painted pieces, and this one looks great, so you may decide to enjoy it as is! As usual, you've "dressed" it beautifully. I am already looking forward to updates of your accessorizing as the holidays come and go!

Grins!

that's so special. I'm glad you gave this beautiful piece of your grandmother's a good home. My grandmother wants me to have all her stuff because she knows I'm one of the only ones who'll take care of it and use it (and not sell everything off). I can't wait to see your spring decorations!

Isn't it great to have something so special that you can enjoy every day? I love pieces that have been passed down from someone special. I have my husband's grandfather's rocker and my grandmother's small accent table. They mean a lot to me.

Well Angie, I love it just the way it is. I think we blog girls get kind of carried away with having to paint everything. The warm patina of the wood is just a pleasant change. It is simply beautiful, and it has memories that make it extra special.
