A Chest of Drawers in the Kitchen?!

I have decided that Grandma's hutch that I have had here in my kitchen definitely needs to be painted. I took it out and it is now sitting in my dining room until I figure out what color I want and get the gusto to go ahead and do it. So...I moved this antique chest of drawers out of the dining room and into the kitchen where the hutch was to see what a white piece would look like. I am always saying how there is a lot of white in my kitchen (cabinets, backsplash, appliances, waincoting, table and chairs) and I really don't like that much white. But, then I saw this white piece in here and it looks like it belongs. I was thinking that I might should try to quit hating all the white and just embrace it and just have color in the fabric and accessories. Gotta have my color y'all, ya know? So I am leaning towards painting the hutch white. What do y'all think? I like the idea of black too, but I know dark things don't show up well on black. For now I am going to enjoy the chest of drawers in here. I think it looks pretty cute and I always enjoy something different. The corner needed something so I stuck that black shutter over there. I am trying to figure out what to do with it. I thought about painting it green, but my husband said he likes it black. This has been a rambling post, so I'll shut up now and let you go on with your day. Have a good one!

What about painting it white and hanging the black shutter horizontally across the top? It's looking great in there!!!

I think the white or the black would look great, Angie! I've been leaning more toward black when it's a choice between the two. I have a chest of drawers in my entry foyer. The drawers are great storage for our winter hats/gloves/scarves and I also use a drawer for my extra table linens.

Angie, I love the chest there. Looks perfect and you always do such great vignettes on top. The shutter looks good there and the black is o.k., but green or red may pop better!

I think white brightens the space up. I'd definitely do white.

I think the hutch painted white would look great in there ~ I like the height of it next to the windows instead of the chest !!

I love the chest in there Angie! I love the way you "dressed" it...the shutter and the tray...gorgeous!

I think red would look great...can't wait to see what you end up doing!

Enjoy!

I'm with you about the color!! The white looks great but I think color would be better. If you did do black, you could always do a red or something on the back inside the hutch to make sure your things stand out.

I am putting a dresser in my living room as a sofa table. Need all the storage I can get!!

I love the white chest of drawers in the kitchen. I think the size and color is great for that space. I really like bringing in more black with the shutter, etc. You are a clever girl!!

The white chest looks good with all the white molding you have in that room, but I really do love the red hutch!

Love the white! THe dark makes the room look gloomy (But I love the hutch). The white brings your eye to see the white and makes it bright and cheery. Good luck with your decision.

The white chest of drawers looks GREAT. I agree that it's hard to see dark pieces on black.

I think you'll be happier with a different color, since you are such a colorful person :). I would have suggested yellow, but your walls are that great color. I'm sure you'll come up with something wonderful.

I'm a first time reader/commenter (found you via Thrifty Decor Chick), but Oh. My. Goodness! I LOOOOOOVE your house! You and like the same colors, it appears (thus far, lol). The fabric you have on the seat and back of the chair in your living room, is destined as a cornice/valance in my open family/dining room, and the close by bathroom.

As far as your hutch. White, or RED. I've got yellow walls, white trim, lots of white in other areas of the dining room and kitchen, but have a red china cabinet and corner cabinet (was an entertainment center, now its my china closet)...I also have a lovely red dresser I used to use in there, but decided to opt to use it in the family room.

LOOVE your home!

I think that looks so cute! Would you believe I stacked up two old buffets, one with the legs cut off....painted the whole thing white and I use it in the bedroom as a dresser. So, if you can put a dresser in the kitchen, I can put buffets in the bedroom!

You do great work.
I enjoy your blog.

Angie the white chest looks great! I love it against the white molding/wainscotting. And that piece will add extra storage. I love the chest of drawers I have in my kitchen and all the extra space it provides. Can't wait to see what you decide on your hutch.

Oh, I actually think dressers look fabulous anywhere in the house! And the white looks wonderful in your dining area. I just read your more recent post about not painting your hutch white, but a color instead and think that will look fantastic, too, and will fit nicely in that space. Your home looks so good with color!
