Pantry Screen Door

I saw this idea somewhere and thought it was so cute. Ofcourse, the one I saw that was so cute had all the food and stuff inside all organized into baskets and bins which is my goal to do one day.

My sweet and wonderful husband saw the screen door in someone's trash while he was jogging. He went back later and got it and I was thrilled. I have looked at new ones at Lowe's and Home Depot many times, but wanted one for really cheap. He cut it and pieced it together so it would fit the opening. He painted it black and distressed it. I can't take credit for any of it because he did it all. I did get the fake crystal knob for it though. It was something I already had. He also put molding on the front of each shelf and black and white checked wallpaper on the back wall.

I know I'm probably crazy to have a pantry where you can see everything inside, but I haven't regretted doing it. Like I said, my goal is to have cute baskets, bins, jars, and different kinds of containers to hold everything. It just hasn't been a priority yet. I'll let you know if I ever get it to look pretty. I hope you all have a wonderful and creative weekend! I am going to do some scrapbooking with a good friend of mine so I'm excited! Oh yeah, and we'll be hitting some yard sales too ofcourse!

Using calendar prints as artwork

Do you like to look at calendars in stores? I do! I love to look at the beautiful pictures and prints. I also love to frame them and hang them on my walls all around my house. It's a cheap and easy way to get some artwork and you can change it out when you want. I have lots of calendars I've bought and been given and I get them out from time to time when I'm looking for something new to hang. Some of the pictures I mat and some I don't. I usually use a 10x13 or 11x14 frame. You will have to do some trimming because the picture will not fit exactly.

The problem in my house is I need more walls because I about have them all filled up! Does anyone out there know what I mean?! I am definitely not a follower of the "less is more" philosophy. I can't help it - I like STUFF! Well, off to do some chores and move my stuff around. My dad calls it rotating your junk. It's what I love to do!

I love shutters

I love using shutters to decorate with. Above are two projects I did a while ago and thought I'd share them. The first hangs in my living room and has a tin basket with some greenery and berries hanging from it. It was a long shutter my husband cut in half. I painted it black and then dry brushed some green over it but still let the black show through. We added the large vintage looking hooks to it also. I need to find some other stuff to hang from it. I'm sure I can round up something from my arsenal of accessories. The second shutter is in my hallway. I can't remember if I painted it or if it was already black. Anywho... I (well, my husband) attached hooks to it and I (yes, me, not my husband) hung frames with ribbon stapled on the backs. I really can do some things without my husband. I just need him for the technical manly stuff. I also hung a ceramic medallion in the center. I like the white frames, but I may change them out one day for something different. I have also thought of putting something on either side of the medallion, maybe plates? I'm open to suggestions. I know you people out there have great ideas 'cause I read your blogs and lust over your cute homes! Well, my husband and dogs have gone to bed so I had better go too. I hate it when I'm the last one to go to bed - my dogs don't leave me any room! Have a great Wednesday!

Great deals at Kirkland's

My husband and I went to the Mall Friday night and I always have to check out Kirkland's, one of my favorite stores. One of the employees was marking down the damaged items half off the already reduced price so she could get rid of them. I found 2 great deals - I was so excited!

I paid $7 for the clock and $5 for the frame. Is that a deal or what?! The clock is pretty big and looks good in my dining room. The only thing wrong with it is that the glass is missing. Who cares? I'm not sure where I'll put the collage frame. It has a small torn place on the mat and a few scratches. I think I can fix it and it will look fine. Happy shopping!

Birdcage Lamp

I made this hanging lamp out of a birdcage my dad found in the trash somewhere. Well, I guess I should say that my husband made it because he's the one who wired it so it would work. I didn't do anything to the birdcage. I left it weathered looking - I didn't want it to look new. I bought a plant hanger, painted it white, and attached it to the wall and hung the lamp from it. I have never put anything in the birdcage, but I could add greenery or a nest. I'll have to look around and see what I can come up with. Have a great day!

From the dumpster to my den

The pictures below show a piece I have in my den/living room. I wish I had a before picture to show you. My husband and I got it out of a dumpster at an apartment building in a city we used to live in. I can't remember if it was actually in the dumpster or sitting beside it. Oh well, anyway, it used to be white and in not so good a shape. My handy husband is good at remaking pieces so he added a new top and beadboard to the sides and molding all around the top and bottom. He painted it black and I stenciled fleur de lis (how do you write the plural?) on the drawers and added new knobs. It turned out cute and would work in any room if I wanted to move it somewhere else. The drawers provide a lot of storage which I always need more of. I had been thinking about repainting it in a gold color to match with other things in the room, but I'm not sure.

I always walk around my house and can think of things to do to improve or change the decor. Do you do that? I haven't been very motivated or creative lately. But, I get inspired when I look at my favorite blogs and see what other people accomplish. I usually have so many things I want to do that I don't know which project to start with. Well, I'm going to go now and try to get inspired. Have a terrific Tuesday!!!

Do y'all like toile?

I love toile. Toile pillows, window coverings, lampshades, plates, they all look beautiful to me. I don't know what it is about it that I am so drawn to. I seem to migrate to it when I see it in stores. It has a sort of vintage feel, yet it looks good in all types of rooms. Toile comes in many color combinations that it is hard to pick which one I like best. Let's take a look around my house and see if we can find anything toile. I bet we will!

Sorry some of the pictures are dark. I am not the best photographer! Also, sorry if the red date on all my pictures is not very pretty. I had my husband turn that feature on so when I take pictures of my son (which I do all the time!) I always know the dates and don't have to look them up. I would love to hear about your like or love (like me) of toile. Hope you have a wonderful weekend!
