My Laundry Room

Well, here is my new and improved laundry room I have working on the past few days. It was fun to do because I didn't go out and buy anything. I used things I already had which forced me to be creative. I have really been enjoying my lamp in there because it gives a much better view from the kitchen. I love having it on at night! Of course, I recovered the shade, an old dirty one bought at a yard sale. The tray (25 cents yard sale find) was silver and I painted it black and added scrapbook paper to the center. My husband made the table between the washer and dryer a few years ago from a wood and iron piece from Michaels. It has been up in my attic and I was so happy it worked in the space. I got the idea of the table from Shannon at Bless Our Nest (thedavisfamilynwa.blogspot.com). I had to put some wood blocks underneath to lift it up and then added fabric to the front. Now it hides the dogfood and trashcan - YAY! I hot glued the toile fabric and ribbon to make the valance hung on the door. The door goes to the outside (back of our house), but we never use it. We have another backdoor in the living room that we use. The plate rack over the door was already there. I just changed the plates on it. The white plate above the toile bunny plaque has a fleur de lis Christmas ornament hot glued to it. The fleur de lis was gold and I painted it red. I redid the magnet board by adding harlequin scrapbook paper to it. I still want to add something like an initial or some words to the scrapbook paper on the magnet board, but haven't done it yet. This was a fun project because it was easy, inexpensive, and only took a short amount of time. And I can always change out the plates or swap out the bunny plaque for one of my many framed calendar pictures. I was going to hang a rooster print, but decided on the bunny for now. O.K., I'll shut up now for those of you who are still reading this. I don't like to post really long explanations because I figure no one reads them all the way through anyway. I want to see your cute laundry rooms so show them and let me know about it!

Laundry Room Sneak Peek

I have been inspired by these cute laundry rooms I have been seeing on people's blogs. Have you seen them? Two that come to mind are Bless Our Nest (thedavisfamilynwa.blogspot.com) and Thrifty Decor Chick (thriftydecorchick.blogspot.com). I would link you to them, but my husband always has to do it for me and he is in the bed. I know, I'm computer illiterate. I decided to do a mini-redo on mine to make it more pleasant to be in and look at. Mine is small so there is not a whole lot of room to work with and space to decorate. I am using stuff I already have by shopping around my house in closets and in my attic. I love it when I use things I have and don't have to buy more for a new look. My husband likes that too! Here is a sneak peek at what I have been working on. Hopefully I'll show the finished product on Wed., but don't hold your breath!

Some Awards, Lampshade Redo, and Yard Sale Finds

I received some wonderful awards I need to share with you. Tricia Anne (notesofsincerity.blogspot.com) and JennyKate (jennykate77.blogspot.com) gave me The Kreative Blogger award. Thank you to both of them! I am not that creative, I am just a good copier!

Nichole (thepumpkinseed.blogspot.com) and Sue (sue-thecottonpatch.blogspot.com) gave me the Fabulous Fall Decor award. Thank you ladies! It has been so fun decorating for fall. I am already thinking about Christmas and how early is too early to get my stuff out and start decorating!

I recovered a shade I have on a small lamp in my living room. I used some leftover checked fabric from my chair redo and bought some red trim to cover the edges. Sometimes I don't use trim, but it usually looks better and more finished if I do.

There were not very many yard sales this weekend. I only bought these two things - Winter Welcome sign for $1 and the bunny for $2.

I have got some projects in the works (as always) that I'll be showing soon. I have a very long list of things I've written down that I want to do that I've seen on blogs and in magazines. There are so many cute ideas that are out there - it's hard to pick and choose which ones to do. I want to do them all!

Friday Favorites

I just love birdhouses! I like them inside and outside. There are so many cute ones out there to buy. My favorite ones look old and have architectural pieces on them like doorknobs and molding. I have been wanting to try to fix up one myself. Michaels has unfinished ones and I want to get one and embellish it with some old handles, silverware, and knobs I have. I'll have to put that on my L-O-N-G list of projects I want to do. I hope you have a great project filled weekend! Or, I guess you can have a relaxing one if you want!

Quick Projects

Here's another 10 cents tray I got at a yard sale. I painted it black, glued on a piece of scrapbook paper, painted the T and glued it on, and glued trim to cover the edges of the paper. I put some magnets on the back so I can hang it on the side of my refrigerator.

I am always looking around my house for ways to add to or change my decor. Last night I took down this metal piece above a picture in my living room and used a pencil to write a T on it and then traced it with my good 'ole Sharpie. It's not perfect looking, but that's O.K. Nothing in my house is perfect, but it's all done with love.

A Friend's House

I went over to see my best friend from high school the other day and took some pictures of her cute house. This is only a small portion of the fall decorations she has out.

She just recently bought this antique table and chairs for her kitchen. She painted it this pretty green (she says she doesn't like it but I think it looks good) and reupholstered the chair seats. Her mom made the gorgeous coordinating window valance.

This is her upstairs guest bedroom which they did themselves. She has a very smart and handy husband. He could probably build a whole house if he wanted to. It took a few years to complete, but it was worth the wait. It is beautiful! My friend painted and distressed her grandmother's antique furniture and it turned out great. Of course, I love the toile fabric she used on the window, the bed, and in the bathroom. The room is so cottagey and I always want to go up and see it whenever I go to her house.

I hope you enjoyed the mini-tour. I'll have to go back again and take pictures of the other rooms in her house. Enjoy the rest of your day!
